Kit Features & Gimmicks
Articulation
- The head is poseable via a double ball-joint neck.
- Shoulder joints can swing back and forth.
- The arms can...
- Swing on a peg-and-socket joint.
- Raise horizontally. (Depending on how you bent, the cables may hinder its articulation.)
- The upper arms can rotate.
- Elbow joints can be bent up to 90 degrees.
- The manipulators can swivel on a ball-and-socket joint if slightly pulled down.
- The waist can rotate 360 degrees.
- The 3-way hip joint axis can slightly swing back-and-forth or tilt upwards/downwards on one side.
- The ball-jointed upper thighs can swing frontwards (and backwards in a limited extent due to the non-poseable rear skirt armor), slightly raise horizontally, and/or rotate 360 degrees on each piece, though it can be hindered by the adapters if one mounts the Brinicle and Prominence Blades.
- Front skirt armors can pivot up and down to avoid interference with the leg articulation.
- The legs feature double-jointed knee parts.
- The feet can swivel on a ball-and-socket joint and/or pivot frontwards/backwards.
Weapons/Other Gimmicks
- The left hand is swappable.
- Each of the weapons can be wielded by their respective hand parts (The Dark Matter Rifle only allows the right hand).
- One can build the head with either the Exia Dark Matter face or the original Exia face.
- Dark Matter Booster can optionally remove from/attach onto the Exia Dark Matter for individual display.
- The Dark Matter Blades can be removed from the booster as handheld weapons.
- Brinicle and Prominence Blades can mount onto the waist units via parts swapping.
- The Brinicle and Prominence Blades can be wielded with both normal & angled hands. (Angled hands are recommended.)
- Gundam Exia Dark Matter can mount onto the Action Base. (removal on the cover piece is required)
Tips & Tricks
- For better results, some or most of the details are needed to be applied with Gundam Markers or Mr. Color paints.
- Topcoat (Mr. Hobby recommended) can be used to protect applied stickers and if any, painted details and marking decals.
- If using matte/flat-finish top coat, it is advisable not to spray on the clear/translucent and the soft parts - can be done by masking or spraying top coat while the said parts are separated.
- Care must be taken while painting the ABS joints: Using enamel paint or excessive lacquer paint layer can damage the plastic.
- Exercise caution while handling the Dark Matter Booster's fins: The pieces may break if you attempt to pose it by holding the lower sections.
Customizing-based tips
- The left open hand from the HG Gundam Dynames kit can be used on this Gunpla. (repaint required)
- The right open hand from the HG Gundam Kyrios kit can be used on this Gunpla. (repaint required)
- If one chooses:
- The kit can be coated with thinned clear pink/red paint to represent Trans-Am.
- The GN Drive from the HGBF Gundam Amazing Exia can mount onto the back when the Dark Matter booster is not attached on, although this may result in a less accurate GN Drive as seen in Episode 24.
- Or alternatively, one must recreate an even more accurate GN Drive via extensive scratch building.
B-Club related customizations
- High Detail Manipulators 154, 156, 221 and 222 can be used for this kit. (Repaint for 221 and 222 is required.)
Notes & Trivia
- The name "ガンダムエクシア D/A" is engraved on the new runner's plates, which hints an eventual release of the HGBF Gundam Amazing Exia kit 6 months later.
- Despite being based on the HG00 Gundam Exia, the upper elbows, the chest parts, and the feet are entirely new molds.
